Triathlons come in multiple flavors, sprint, olympic, half and full.

Sprints usually fall into the range of 600-800 meter swim, 13-18 mile bike, and a 5 K run. Olympic is usually about a mile swim, 20-25 mile bike, and a 10 K run, and roughly doubles from there.

I used to be an outdoor guy, and didn't have to try to be more fit than the average guy. I don't like going to the gym necessarily, but I feel better when I do and I'm finally admitting that I'm not 25 anymore and i need more maintenance than I once did.

I started doing the short triathlons as a way to celebrate that I was not dead, after I once almost was ( thanks for the right surgeon at the right time). Now I'm doing them to remember that staying alive is worth doing well while healthy and without love handles.

Wow!!! that is pretty impressive. You must be in pretty good shape to be able compete in one of those. i'm not sure I could survive it.

Anyway....good luck with it and congratulations. You have every right to be proud of yourself for making a big lifestyle change like that.
